Power over Cervical Cancer heads to Malacca

Those of you who have read some of my post might have realised by now that I consider Malacca my kampung. However, it’s actually my dad’s hometown. I was born in Selangor but raised in Bangsar. But it’s quite lame to tell people that my kampung is Bangsar, so I always say Malacca.

Also, I have always been very fond of the city, having spent many weekends there as I was growing up. Until today, I consider myself rather familiar with the historical city and enjoy trips back every now and then to meet with relatives, take a break and umm, indulge in lots of unhealthy food. Hehe

Well, so it gives me great pleasure to announce that the Power Over Cervical Cancer (POCC) Pink Mobile is currently in Malacca, the first state they are visiting as part of their nationwide roadshow to spread awareness about Cervical Cancer.

A few weeks ago, I blogged about how I am one of the five digital ambassadors for the POCC campaign, alongside my friends Joyce and Serena as well as bloggers KlubbKidd and Yvonne Foong. Read the post where I shared some pictures of the event where I was pinned (pictured below).

Getting pinned

In the post, I also mentioned how Cervical Cancer is the second most occurring cancer among women in Malaysia, next to breast cancer. However, cervical cancer can be prevented!

Well, if you are in Malacca (and then Johor Baru, Ipoh and Penang in the following weeks), look out for the POCC Pink Mobile to learn more about the cancer. This weekend, the Pink Mobile will be at:

6th March 2010
12pm – 8pm
Jonker Street

7th March 2010
10am – 6pm
Dataran Pahlawan Mall

You will also be able to take the Cervical Cancer Risk Questionnaire there. By doing the questionnaire, you will learn more about cervical cancer as well as help donate to the National Cancer Society of Malaysia (RM1 is donated to the NCSM for every questionnaire filled – you can fill it up online here too.

And remember, it’s not only a girls thing. Guys, you too can help! Get your mum, sisters, aunts, girlfriends, not-so-good friends to go for regular pap smear tests!

If you find yourself in Malacca, Johor Baru, Ipoh and Penang over the next few weeks and want to find out what time the Pink Mobile will be around, it might be handy if you had a smartphone to log on to the Net (instead of having to make notes on a piece of paper – how 1700s!).

Well, if you’re looking for a smartphone that can do just that, maybe you can consider the BlackBerry Storm 9520! Featuring HSDPA up to 7.2Mbps, plus the fact that it is Wi-Fi enabled, this makes the Storm 2 the fastest BlackBerry for web browsing which can only mean one thing: Internet ready in an instant.
