In Singapore for the MTV European Music Awards, which was held in Spain
Well, sorry if I confused you with the title of this blog post. But I really didn’t want to give the impression that I was in Madrid, Spain, attending the MTV European Music Awards (MTV EMA). I was, however, in Singapore at the invitation of MTV Asia for their special screening of the (slightly) delayed telecast of the show for bloggers. If we wanted to watch it live, we’d have to be up at 3am!
The “party” was held at MTV Asia’s new office in New Tech Park, just over a week old. There were bloggers at the event from Malaysia, Phillipines and Singapore (of course) but I didn’t get to meet many of them. From Malaysia, Kenny and Rita were there, besides me of course. The event was pretty relaxed. We were served Spanish breakfast (including sangria!) and the TV in the meeting room and the breakfast area meant we could walk in and out without missing the show (no TVs in the loo though, sorry Kid Rock, I missed half your performance).
We got to watch an unedited version of the show (because it was barely a couple of hours after the live show – not that we were complaining). Since we were all bloggers, everyone had their little gadgets around. Some people brought laptops, others just used their phones. I decided that I would tweet for R.AGE as well so I carried a few devices with me – my iPhone, my BlackBerry Curve 3G and my iPad. It was more than enough but I thought it was ridiculous that I had such advanced gadgets yet I felt like I needed three, so I took a picture of my tools
Overall, I rather enjoyed the MTV EMAs. I’ve always like watching award shows – partially to see how some artistes make a fool of themselves, to watch the performances and also to bitch about how some artist could win the award over others (yes, I’m looking at you Justin Bieber and Ke$ha!).
The following photos were courtesy of MTV Asia, and I’m sharing it as I note some of my favourite (kinda) moments from the show.
Arguably my favourite performance of the show – B.o.B. and Hayley Williams performing. There were some other great ones that I quite enjoyed, like the ones by Kid Rock (the first half before I needed to pee, that is), Plan B and of course, Bon Jovi, but this one sticks to mind. Maybe it’s because I’ve never seen them perform it before. But I thought it was done really well. And I love the song Airplanes, of course.
I was never a major fan of Katy Perry but after catching her at MTV World Stage earlier this year, I’ve become a really huge fan of hers. So I was really excited to hear that she was going to be performing. She performed Fireworks which is a really nice song. But truth be told, I didn’t really feel her performance. What I did enjoy about it though was the amazing effects. Her dancers grabbed these cylinder things and suddenly … FIREWORKS! I really loved it!
That said, her performance was still wayyyyy better than …
… a flourescent Ke$ha! If you read my Tweets from this morning, you’d know that I’m not a big fan. I just don’t get her. And she looks, acts and talk mental. Like mental-er than Lady Gaga. But I wanted to share this picture because it actually looks quite nice. But when the lights are on, she looks … mental.
Talking about mental, the cast of Jackass appeared several times in the show. And this one – the picture above – was classic. Like classic. As in, all the bloggers in the room shut up when it happened. As in, unless someone puts it up on YouTube, you guys will probably never see it.
See that guy in front, the shirtless one? Well, apparently someone in the group asked him to take his shirt off. So he did, and decided to take his pants off as well. Then the rest started trying to pull his undies down. And he struggled. Then he decided to moon the crowd … then he turned around and showed himself off in all his glory.
The wee man showed his wee wee pee pee! OMG!
I don’t think we ever recovered from that sight. Still the show much go on and I was pleased when Bon Jovi was named the first ever MTV Global Icon. Well deserved I thought and the band showed why it deserved the award at the end of the show with a medley of their hits, including Shot Through The Heart and Livin’ On A Prayer.
Anyway, if you missed today’s telecast, fret not because you can catch the MTV EMA 2010 again this weekend on MTV Asia (Astro Channel 713).
Sat (Nov 13) – 1am and 9pm
Sun (Nov 14) – 4pm
