Fire at Jalan Tun Sambanthan, Kuala Lumpur #KLfire
So, Twitterverse (or at least my Twitter stream) is inundated with tweets about a fire in KL.
From Sentul, where she is, Claudia said it looked like it was coming in from Bangsar. A couple of minutes later, I got a Whatsapp message from @fahmi_fadzil asking me if I can confirm it, since I live in Bangsar.
I looked out of the window, and even walked out of the house but couldn’t see anything. The rain had just stopped and there wasn’t any smoke in the sky. Although, there was this huge yellow patch in the clouds in the sky, and I wondered if it was a reflection of the fire. I told Fahmi that it looked like it was coming from the Travers/Lake Garden area.
Came back and saw this Tweet from my friend @iRizal (sorry I curi your gambar), who Twitpic some pictures, including this one. He lives nearby the area at the top of a tall building so he got a good shot.
Rizal guessed that it was coming from Petaling Street but a call from a friend who works at Menara Maybank dismissed that.
(Update: 9.51pm) Here’s another picture that just appeared on my Twitter feed, a close-up by Alex Wong of Single Track Mind, according to @zique.
However, some folks on Twitter, including The Star Online, has confirmed now that the fire is at Jalan Tun Sambanthan. There were tweets going around stating that it was at an apartment-building under construction in Brickfields, near Villa Scott. At that time, my colleague @asohan confirmed, before the report came out, that a reporter was on the way to the location.
The Star reports:
A fire broke out on the 23rd floor of the D.Tiara office-cum hotel suite under construction on Jalan Tun Sambanthan in the Brickfields area here on Monday. The fire had started at 8pm but fire and rescue personnel from five fire engines had brought the fire almost under control at 9.15pm.
Hopefully, no one got hurt.
Oh, by the way, another point for social media. What was that you were saying again, Dr. Rais?
(Update: 10.32pm) p/s Got a mention on The Star Online article above for this post. Woot!
